>> What is Virtual Dedicated Server?

Virtual Dedicated Server (VDS), another name is Virtual private server (VPS), is the Unix system (FreeBSD stable) that runs on a computer where some similar systems have installed. VDS control type is quite standard. Virtual Dedicated Server administrator is the system full-fledged root, who has an access to its complete configurating and administrating systems, except the hardware component (he has no access to it).

You can compile and install any software (including packages and ports FreeBSD) on your VDS using unix-systems common methods. In this case, all the installed software will occupy your Virtual Dedicated Server disk space.

On a VDS you can host primary and secondary servers of your domains. And the number of the placed zones will be limited by your disk space only.

More than 1000 Mb of the basic software necessary for hosting and availability of sites is installed and configured on each VDS.

Preinstalled software:

• operating system: FreeBSD 6.x
• control panel: ISPmanager Lite
• web-server: Apache 1.3.хх or Apache 2.2
• Apache modules: mod_ssl, mod_frontpage, mod_php, mod_rewrite and many others. If the need arises, any other modules can be installed.
• DBMS: MySQL, PostgreSQL, Interbase
• mail servers: qpopper, imapd, sendmail
• DNS-server: bind
• ssh-server: sshd
• ftp-server: proftpd
• programming languages: jdk1.4.2 (java), gcc (C/C++), perl, python 2
• mailing lists server: majordomo

All this software will occupy nothing of your Virtual Dedicated Server disk space. We always add new items in the list and update the installed software regulary to the stable versions. With dedicated server or co-location, you will all the time have to control your software updating.

With Virtual dedicated server you will have no limits on the number of sites, data bases, domain zones, ssh / ftp / e-mail users. With shared servers (virtual hosting), you can't do this.

Something else you get with a dedicated server that you don't get with a shared server is your own IP address. You wont have to share it with anyone else. Every VDS has its own unique IP address, but if the need arises, you can always add more addresses (see tariff plans).

VDS is limited on system resources use (processor power, memory). The system resources will be distributed among the VDS hosted on one physical server dinamically. The algorithm of the system resources distribution garantees all the VDS non-stop functioning.

VDS vs. Virtual Hosting

VDS advantages :

• Complete access to the system, root-user privileges.
• No limits on WWW domains, data bases, domain zones, ssh / ftp / email users. VDS has system resources limitations only.
• With a virtual dedicated server, you can run your own custom firewall. This will enable you to enforce your own control policy that will only allow people you want to be able to access it. All the other hosting provider customers (using many resources) will not affect your VDS.
• You can install the software and applications that you need and want to use on a VDS. This lessens your dependency on web hosts and bypasses the time delays and expenses accrued from them.

VDS disadvantage :

• It may seem too expensive to host your websites on a dedicated server, but when you compare it to shared hosting, the end result is worth it. Moreover, we are ready to offer you really low prices.

VDS vs. Dedicated Server

VDS advantages :

• Dedicated server is much more expensive then VDS.
